Journey to the Center of the Earth

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Henry Levin (1959)

U Certificate

Our Score
This lavish, well-crafted adaptation of Jules Verne's classic tale stars James Mason as the intrepid Scottish professor who leads an expedition into a volcano shaft and finds large mushrooms, giant lizards, an underground ocean and the lost city of Atlantis. Bernard Herrmann's fabulous music sets the mood for the spirited adventure, with the accent firmly on wholesome light-heartedness rather than vivid Verne danger. Singer Pat Boone adds his own brand of fantasy swashbuckling to the colourful proceedings, which are played out against some staggeringly imaginative subterranean sets.

An explorer discovers a prehistoric monster-infested world deep beneath Earth's crust and faces a tough ordeal escaping the predatory attacks of the creatures as he tries to guide his team back to safety. Sci-fi adventure based on Jules Verne's novel, starring Pat Boone, James Mason, Arlene Dahl and Diane Baker.
