Doctor Dolittle meets The Crying Game in this smash-hit comedy that made Jim Carrey an overnight sensation. The rubber-faced star plays a bumbling, Hawaiian-shirted detective hired to find the kidnapped dolphin mascot of the Miami Dolphins football team. Your reaction to this fast and furious farce will largely depend on whether you find Carrey's distinctive style of extremely physical comedy - often compared to that of Jerry Lewis - stupidly hilarious or downright annoying. It's directed with anarchic energy and typically quirky style by Tom Shadyac, who also brought his magic touch to Eddie Murphy's The Nutty Professor and later reteamed with Carrey for the comedy Liar Liar. Carrey's long-suffering co-stars Courteney Cox (from Friends) and Sean Young (in surely one of her most bizarre screen roles) had the good sense not to reappear in the lamentably unfunny sequel When Nature Calls.
Plot Summary
Comedy starring Jim Carrey, Courteney Cox and Sean Young. Eccentric investigator Ace Ventura is hired to discover who is behind the mysterious kidnapping of the Miami Dolphins football team mascot, a dolphin called Snowflake, just a week before the Super Bowl.
