Marlee Matlin, who won an Oscar for her tour-de-force performance in Children of a Lesser God, stars alongside Melissa Gilbert (Little House on the Prairie) in this controversial period drama. In 1927 Virginia, an unwed, woman with learning difficulties is involved in the landmark Supreme Court decision legalising the enforced sterilisation of "feeble-minded women". A young female law student fights against a prominent physician and a politically motivated attorney in order to help disadvantaged young women stand up for their rights. Matlin and Gilbert deliver earnest performances in a richly filmed piece that delivers a piece of compelling American history.


A woman with learning disabilities is declared unfit to raise her newborn daughter, but goes to court to fight for custody of the child. Drama, starring Marlee Matlin, Melissa Gilbert and Pat Hingle.
