The Planners

Series 1 - Episode 4

Some great little stories unfold here because although Cheshire planning officer Neil states, “We’re only here to enforce planning legislation. We’re not the garden police and we’re not social workers, either”, these officials do get involved in every aspect of British life.

That can mean a terraced house festooned with security cameras,
a radical redesign of a historic tower that’s unpopular with the community or the erecting of a massive function venue in the grounds of a grand country house – something the locals fear may prompt wild Glastonbury-style raves rather than decorous weddings. There are great characters too – retired teacher and councillor Liz Ashton is a hoot.
