Mr Selfridge spends most of this episode unconscious after last week’s car crash, thus sparing us Jeremy Piven’s expansive arms, so it’s up to his plucky employees to step into the breach and keep things going.
Pompous Mr Grove takes over, but he upsets Lady Mae (Katherine Kelly, doing lots of eyebrow acting as she fights gamely with an aristocratic drawl) when he insists that her Suffragette friends aren’t welcome in the shop. The Votes for Women movement is planning to march down Oxford Street and they don’t take kindly to being barred from the store. It’s a storyline that is resolved in an unintentionally hilarious piece of dramatic flummery.
About this programme
6/10. Harry is left unconscious after the car accident and as his family gathers by his bedside, the news arrives that Mrs Grove is dead - something which leaves Miss Mardle confused. Meanwhile, a suffragette demonstration in the area sees all the store's staff pulling together, and as Victor and Lady Mae conduct their secret affair, Agnes and Henri's friendship continues to grow.
