Rayna Jaymes is the reigning queen of country music, but tour ticket sales are down and a sharply ambitious crossover ingénue, Juliette Barnes, has her eye on the throne. So we enter the cut-throat world of Nashville, Tennessee.
This polished US drama presents it as a world seething with resentment, chicanery and, naturally, heartache. It piles on the melodrama but its Golden Globe-nominated leads (Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere) are both showstoppers. Even if you don’t like country, this Grand Ole Soap Opry will entertain.
