Ravi Shankar: Between Two Worlds

Ravi Shankar: Between Two Worlds

About this programme

A profile of the sitar player, who died in 2012. Famous for teaching George Harrison to play the instrument, as well as his work with violinist Yehudi Menuhin, Shankar talks candidly about a childhood spent on the road with his brother's dance troupe and how he developed his unique brand of Indian classical music. He also describes his ambivalence toward the popularity that grew around him in the 1960s, and how his brush with the hedonistic rock world caused him to devote his time to teaching. First broadcast in 2002.
