The Hairy Bikers: Everyday Gourmets

Series 1 - 1. Weekend Treats

The Ant and Dec of television cookery shows are back once again. After revamping meals on wheels, baking their way round Europe and then dieting, Si King and Dave Myers are, as they put it, "goin’ posh. You don’t have to be minted to make great food”.

Yes, this is the Bikers going gourmet, but on the cheap: “You don’t have to have a fat-cat bonus to throw a lavish lunch; you can be proper skint and still eat like a king.” The pair, bursting with noisy bonhomie, promise to make a special lunch for ex-soldier Andy, who lost an arm and both legs after stepping on an explosive device in Afghanistan, and his pregnant wife Claire. It’s a thank you to their supportive friends, and they want something oriental. So the bikers trawl a huge Chinese supermarket before getting giggly as they test-taste speciality beers.

About this programme

1/6. Si King and Dave Myers demonstrate how to make gourmet food without breaking the bank. They begin with a few weekend treats, rustling up several delicious dishes, gleaning money-saving secrets at the UK's only pub with two Michelin stars and finding out how beer can be as good a match with food as wine. Everything they learn will be put to the test when they help a wounded soldier say thank you to some very important people with a surprise barbecue.
