Series 1 - 1. Pilot

Think Curb Your Enthusiasm with an even bigger raincloud above its head and you’ll be on the right lines when it comes to this sour but smart series from comedian Louis CK.

“I know too much about life to have any optimism,” says divorced father-of-two Louie, which kind of sets the tone for this opening episode. As we flit between stand-up footage and comic vignettes, we take in the pointlessness of relationships, a school field trip that goes awry thanks to an incompetent bus driver, and a disastrous first date.

It may not sound like a barrel of laughs, but Louie’s fatalistic and piercingly honest humour feels fresh and bleakly funny.
