It’s a steamy, languid day in Saint-Marie as the island’s police personnel loaf around the nick at the start of another sunny, silly adventure. “No one has enough energy to break the law,” wails lovely Camille, but of course this is Death in Paradise, not A Bit Bored in Paradise, so a corpse quickly turns up. It’s bobbing in the pool of a very exclusive and expensive spa
that specialises in plastic surgery.
Death in Paradise has turned into quite a nice holiday destination for every British character actor on Spotlight’s books, so yet again you’ll have a little mental workout guessing which one of them did it. Was it James Fleet, the clinic’s imperious chief surgeon? Or Cherie Lunghi, a glamourpuss on the lookout for love?
Everyone behaves in a manner most likely to arouse suspicion as endearing Richard Poole (Ben Miller) and his ramshackle team hunt for clues.
About this programme
3/8. A body is discovered floating in the pool of an exclusive cosmetic surgery clinic and several things point to suicide - the victim was going through a messy divorce and there is an empty pill box in her room. But DI Poole has several reasons to believe Valerie Dupree was murdered - not least the fact she poured herself a cup of the world's most expensive tea but only drank half. The pressure is on to find the culprit as the clinic is highly respected on the island and the chief surgeon is an old friend of Commissioner Patterson - and as the detectives begin to dig, they discover many sordid secrets among the guests and staff. Cherie Lunghi (Secret Diary of a Call Girl), James Fleet (The Vicar of Dibley) and Emma Pierson (Hotel Babylon) guest star.
