Glen Campbell: One Last Love Song

Radio Times

defy anyone to come away from this biography of the first country–pop crossover star not humming. Wichita Lineman does it for me every time. There are cracking titbits — songwriter Jimmy Webb revealing he’d only half-finished the version of Wichita that got recorded — supplied by a wealth of talking heads, plus a wonderful summation of the whole ethos of country: “If you can’t hug a fat woman, don’t go into country music.” It’s followed by a 1977 live concert, An Evening with Glen Campbell.

About this programme

Documentary telling Glen Campbell's life story, from an impoverished childhood in Arkansas through success as a guitarist and singer with hit records including Wichita Lineman and Rhinestone Cowboy. During the peak of his career he enjoyed huge mainstream success, but his private life was in turmoil as drink, drugs and a messy divorce saw him fall from grace. Later, however, his fortunes turned around and he found a new generation of music fans.
