It’s hard enough putting a brave face on winter from the comfort of a house with a telly. Imagine if you lived in a wood. Or a nest. Chris Packham, Martin Hughes-Games and Michaela Strachan are back in the Highlands to capture four days in the cold-weather lives of our native wild things.

Live cameras are on hand to catch up with the beaver family, birds, red squirrels and pine martens that made last year’s Autumnwatch so charming. Have their busy preparations for winter helped them through an unpredictable season? The team will also look at the natural coping strategies that lead to some of winter’s most arresting sights.

About this programme

1/4. New series. Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan and Martin Hughes-Games present from their base at the Aigas Field Centre in the Highlands as cameras follow beavers, red squirrels, pine martens and a host of other animals to see how they cope with this challenging season. There is footage from a seal colony in Norfolk showing pups being born and males battling it out on the beaches, and the team reveals the dark side of one of the nation's favourite birds - the robin.
