Comedian and writer Sharon Horgan has developed a parallel career as a mischievous mother confessor, making revealing documentaries on parenthood and, most recently, marriage.
Now 42, she’s decided she’s about to have a midlife crisis. “Forty is the old age of youth… 50 is the youth of old age,” she says, sagely, before meeting six women who have all survived crises. Such as Nicky, a terrifying 54-year-old motivational business speaker who makes Horgan write her fears in a book and then burn the page; and Gaynor, who emerged from her wrecked marriage determined to have fun with younger men. But don’t, whatever you do, call her a “cougar”.
