The Undateables

Series 2 - Episode 1

“Why is everything so difficult?” grumbles 26-year-old Michael as his path to true love hits another boulder. As well as the usual dating challenges, Michael has to contend with autism and a mild learning disability: in one date, he dutifully reads questions off his phone that were suggested by his mum in a rehearsal.

This is the return of the match-making series for people
with disabilities that divided opinion – enlightening or exploitative? The intrusion of cameras must make stress-related symptoms worse, but there are touching scenes. As well as Michael, we meet a 21-year-old with Tourette syndrome and a 22-year-old whose stroke left her unable to remember simple words.
