Some of the most effective quiz shows are the ones where contestants get within sniffing distance of the money, or a representation of it. Tipping Point, which is back for a new series, doesn’t have the clout of the cash in The Million Pound Drop, but it does have an arcade-style machine full of counters to represent the prize fund.

To accumulate the counters, contestants have to earn their turn on the Tipping Point machine. Host Ben Shephard is the gatekeeper, with a card full of questions.
