Trouble Abroad

Series 1 - Episode 1

Most “Brits living abroad” docs focus on problems with builders or the locals. This takes a different tack. When Sally and her family bought a dilapidated French farmhouse, they were millionaires planning an idyllic lifestyle. Now she queues for food handouts because her husband wiped out their entire fortune playing online poker. Rob lost his life savings in a Florida business investment that went wrong, while a stroke has left ageing rock star Terry partially disabled and trapped in a Spanish villa that he can’t seem to sell.

All of them try to put a brave face on it but, understandably, there’s a lot of weeping over how their dreams of living in paradise were shattered.
