Mike Noonan (Pierce Brosnan) is a successful novelist in a happy marriage. But this doesn’t last, and soon he’s a boozing wreck, taking refuge at his lakeside house. There his peace is disturbed by tinkling bells, fridge letters that rearrange themselves and old-style gramophones that play in the night. The film tries every twitchy, hokey trick to scare our pants off and by the time it finishes after midnight, it will have succeeded.
