The traditional option on New Year's Eve is BBC2, where Jools’s Annual Hootenanny – HOOTENANNY! – gets going at 11.10pm. Of course, the pipes and drums of the 1st Battalion Scots Guards usher in the new year itself, with a long list of acts on either side. Petula Clark, Ruby Turner and Bobby Womack bring the vintage quality, offset by the newer but faultlessly authentic sounds of Lianne La Havas, Emeli Sandé and Jake Bugg, and 1980s survivors Kevin Rowland, Roland Gift and Adam Ant.

About this programme

Jools Holland presents his 20th annual Hootenanny, and the last one to be filmed at BBC Television Centre, featuring a mixture of veteran artists and modern chart stars. Emeli Sande performs songs from her million-selling Our Version of Events, including a duet with Professor Green, Paloma Faith sings an Etta James number and Petula Clark delivers two of her biggest hits as well as a surprising cover from her forthcoming album. The line-up also includes Adam Ant, Kevin Rowland, Roland Gift, the Hives, Bobby Womack, Lianne La Havas, Bettye LaVette, Jake Bugg, the Dubliners and show stalwart Ruby Turner. As usual, Jools' own Rhythm and Blues Orchestra will be backing many of the solo stars, and as the clocks strike 12, the Pipes and Drums of the 1st Battalion of the Scots Guards help ring in the new year in their own rousing fashion. As well as the musical entertainment, Jools chats to the celebrity audience members, asking them to share their thoughts on the past year and give their predictions for 2013.
