Our Diamond Queen

There’s a chance you might have missed some — or steadfastly avoided all — coverage of Her Majesty’s busy Diamond Jubilee year. In this hat-doffing recap, Sky News’s royal commentator Alastair Bruce whisks us through the key events, the trips, the concerts, Prince Philip’s ailing health and those photos (Harry and Kate snapped, separately, in a state of undress).

Toadying pearls offered by Boris Johnson, Tony Blair, Julian Fellowes and royal commentators may test your gag reflex, but it’s charming seeing the Queen, Camilla and Kate enjoying “a girls’ day out” at Fortnum & Mason. And Sky makes a better cut of the sodden river pageant than the BBC did.

About this programme

Alastair Bruce looks back at the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of 2012, which included a historical river pageant on the Thames, a star-studded concert at Buckingham Palace and the procession from St Paul's Cathedral. The royals kept themselves busy in 2012, travelling far and wide to mark the jubilee. Highlights include Prince Harry's visit to the Caribbean, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's tour of Malaysia, the Solomon Islands and Tuvalu, and more recently, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall's trip to Australia and New Zealand. There are also thoughts on the year's events from contributors including Tony Blair, Boris Johnson, Julian Fellowes and Gary Barlow.
