Lovers of train travel get first-class treatment with a repeat showing of this thoughtful, charming BBC documentary about how volunteers banded together to save some of Britain’s railway tracks and the steam engines that ran on them.

Narrated rather appropriately by The Railway Children’s Jenny Agutter, the wonderfully evocative home movies and interviews with the enthusiasts tell the story of their passion for rescuing and renovating steam engines.

About this programme

2/2. Part two of two. The story of the visionaries who helped to rescue Britain's standard gauge railways continues, as further home-shot footage reveals how these volunteers managed to restore the lines that once served the nation's mines, quarries, factories and docks, but fell into disuse from the 1950s onwards. Narrated by Jenny Agutter.
