Series 12 - Episode 10

Grand Designs

Alison Graham

You might remember Claire Farrow and Ian Hogarth, who wanted to build a family fun palace in their Kensington home when they featured on Grand Designs last year. Whatever you thought of it, the project, complete with a basement nightclub, was memorable.

It was a development dogged by problems. Their neighbours in the chic London mews were furious and objected to plans involving a significant amount of digging.

To make matters worse, a digger smashed into a neighbour’s wall and then the putative dance floor was flooded by an old river. Kevin McCloud revisits to see if things have gone smoothly in the intervening year.

About this programme

10/12. In 2010, Claire Farrow and Ian Hogarth built a home containing a sauna, spa, dance floor and DJ booth on a small patch of land in central London. It was a notorious project with several setbacks - including their digger smashing into a neighbour's wall and the re-emergence of the old river under the building. These threatened to prevent them completing the project, but two years later Kevin McCloud revisits the duo to see how things have progressed.
