Young Apprentice

Series 3 - 3. Theatre Props

At least the young candidates don’t have to worry about their atrocious spelling this week because this is a shopping task. Lord Sugar, standing on the balcony of the London Coliseum as if he were the Pope addressing the faithful in St Peter’s Square, demands they source and buy props for the English National Opera.

There’s always one mystifying item – remember the frenzied hunt for nigella seeds in a previous series? This time the request for a candelabrum leaves one team stumped. Is it a musical instrument? A type of rum? Or a washing machine part? “What do you think the opera is, The Repair Man of Seville?” asks Sugar drily.

About this programme

3/8. Alan Sugar calls the hopefuls to the London Coliseum, home of the English National Opera, from where he sets the teams a dramatic challenge. They are sent into London with a list of 10 theatrical props they must find, and then negotiate the best possible price. Those that return with the most items for the least amount of money will win. While one set of candidates carefully plan out their route, the others race off - but despite their different strategies both teams end the day in a panic. However, it isn't over until the fat lady sings - or in this case, until Lord Sugar announces the result and summons the losers into the boardroom to send another hopeful packing.
