Later Live - with Jools Holland

Series 41 - Episode 8

Radio Times
Review by:
Jack Seale

If you know Ellie Goulding from her cutesy cover of Your Song by Elton John, bad luck: perhaps stung by the idea that she’d helped start a wave of twee “John Lewis ad” acoustic musings, she’s moved as far away as possible from that on her new album Halcyon. Here you’re more likely to hear a lot of booming, bombastic synths.

Also in Jools’s live circuit tonight: Seattle rock group Band of Horses, who can be transcendent or workaday depending on their mood, Sly and the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham, Oxford indie band Foals, Portuguese singer/songwriter Luisa Sobral, and Jimmy Page.

About this programme

8/10. Singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding performs tracks from her recent release Halcyon and Seattle's Band of Horses play songs from their Mirage Rock album. Former Sly and the Family Stone bassist Larry Graham plays tunes from his Raise Up album, Oxford indie band Foals showcase tracks from their forthcoming LP Holy Fire and Portuguese jazz and soul singer Luisa Sobral completes the line-up. Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page chats about the new concert film of the band's reunion in 2007 and American folk musician Rodriguez discusses the documentary Searching for Sugar Man, which charts the revival of his career. An extended edition can be seen on Friday at 11.55pm.
