The Late Great Eric Sykes

Radio Times
Review by:
Mark Braxton

Sykes, who died last year aged 89, was a master at teasing big laughs from unpromising material: a plank, a missing cat, fishing... And he was steeped in comedy greatness, writing for Hancock and Howerd, and collaborating with Spike Milligan on The Goon Show. But it’s for his sitcoms (especially Sykes in the 70s), that he’s best remembered.

Michael Palin and Bruce Forsyth are among those to doff their caps, and how nice to see Denis “If you’re one of those people” Norden, who talks of Sykes’s “repertoire of gestures and sudden stillness”. Another legend, John Le Mesurier, is profiled by Gold at 6pm.
