It’s unexpected in a US primetime thriller, but there’s the thinnest batsqueak of something between Person of Interest’s two male leads, messrs Reese and Finch. It’s there tonight as Reese works out something new about his pet billionaire’s habits.
Flirting would be over-stating it, but Jim Caviezel and the wonderful Michael Emerson know what they’re up to. Which is more than can be said for the writers: they can usually finesse the pot-holes and yawning coincidences, but not this week. Instead we get a fable about Cold War skeletons and the past that is meant to tell us something profound about the lonely life of spies, but doesn’t.
About this programme
8/23. Reese and Finch are confused by the machine's next target, who appears to have made no electronic transactions since the late 1980s - until they discover he is a former East German secret agent living under an assumed identity. However, the delay has given him time to embark on a killing spree that seems to be motivated by revenge - and the case gives Reese an unwelcome reminder of his own murky past. Guest starring Alan Dale (Lost, Ugly Betty), Annie Parisse (Law & Order) and Laila Robins (In Treatment).
