The 14 celebrities have only been paired up with their professional partners for a few weeks so don’t expect a massive improvement on their performances in the launch show. At that point, Jerry Hall didn’t seem to realise she’s supposed to dance rather than pose and Johnny Ball struggled to remember his left from his right, while Colin Salmon, Sid Owen and Richard Arnold loitered at the back like naughty boys hoping nobody would see what they were doing.

Best movers and shakers, of course, were Louis Smith, Denise Van Outen, Victoria Pendleton and Kimberley Walsh but, as we all know, you can be a rubbish dancer and still go far in this show. Remember Russell Grant, Ann Widdecombe and John Sergeant – so entertaining but so bad.

Tonight the first seven couples take to the floor with the next set performing tomorrow evening. As Brucie said, “It’s going to be war on the dance floor”.

1/24. New series. The pro-celebrity contest returns for its 10th season, as Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly host the first of this weekend's two live shows. Victoria Pendleton, Louis Smith, Michael Vaughan, Kimberley Walsh, Nicky Byrne, Richard Arnold, Dani Harmer, Johnny Ball, Jerry Hall, Sid Owen, Colin Salmon, Fern Britton, Lisa Riley and Denise Van Outen are the famous faces who have signed up for the challenge, but only six will dance tonight. They perform either a waltz or a cha-cha-cha, watched over by ever-critical judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, as well as new panellist Darcey Bussell. However, the celebrity hoofers can breathe easy (if such a thing is possible after leaping around a dancefloor for two minutes) for although the experts will be giving their opinions, there will be no public vote or elimination this week.
