“BARM! BAARM! Wah-wah-wah- waaaahhhh!” There, that’s got your attention, hasn’t it? And that’s very much the job of the James Bond film theme, whether it’s that blast of brass from Goldfinger, the seductive twinkling of Diamonds Are Forever or the world-is-your-oyster string figure from You Only Live Twice (the genius behind all of those, John Barry, is profiled earlier at 8.10pm).
So there’s plenty for conductor Carl Davis to choose from as he presides, M-like, over the Philharmonia Orchestra in a special concert at London’s
Royal Festival Hall.
About this programme
To mark 50 years since the cinema release of the first Bond film Dr No, the Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by Carl Davis, performs music from the 007 movies, including Diamonds Are Forever, GoldenEye and From Russia with Love. The concert, at London's Royal Festival Hall, also features singers Mary Carewe and Lance Ellington, and is presented by Honor Blackman, famous for her role as Pussy Galore in Goldfinger.
