Gwyneth Paltrow brings some superstar sparkle to Southend-on-Sea when she shimmers into Jamie and Jimmy’s end-of-the-pier restaurant. She’s good fun, too, as she spills a marital secret – husband Chris Martin has cooked twice and both attempts ended with the arrival of the fire brigade. Seriously.
Paltrow is a big pal of Jamie Oliver – Martin secured the chef’s services
to give his wife a cookery lesson as a birthday present – and she knows her way around a kitchen. She also throws herself into the blokey silliness with
a daft game involving marshmallows, and manages to hold on to her dignity during a rollercoaster ride.
But there is a vaguely serious purpose to the show, which this week champions British sausages. Our two Essex crusaders head to Germany to try to persuade a Bavarian prince to ditch the wurst in his restaurant for our version. Prepare for much sausage-based ribaldry.
About this programme
2/4. Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty travel to Germany to pit British sausages against foreign alternatives, and Jimmy also takes on a stomach-turning food-tasting challenge in the name of science. Hollywood A-lister Gwyneth Paltrow visits the duo's seaside cafe in Southend to cook pasta and faces a food fight involving marshmallows, before joining them for a burger and fries on a rollercoaster.
