A packed lunch. Does that instantly remind you of a windy beach and gritty sandwiches? Does it take you back to the thrill of peeking inside during school break to see what Mum had put in there? Or is it a yawn because you’re one of the 70 per cent of adults who take a packed lunch to work every day?
In this edition, Heston Blumenthal hopes to trigger childhood memories of how exciting lunch boxes once were by inviting disillusioned lunchers to taste monster-sized treats, including the world’s biggest KitKat, and a massive carton of Um Bongo, the drink with the unforgettable slogan “They drink it in the Congo”.
About this programme
6/7. Heston Blumenthal celebrates the packed lunch the only way he knows how, by filling a theme park with super-sized versions of nostalgic favourites and inviting disillusioned lunchers on a surprise school trip. His epic pack-up includes a massive sandwich big enough to feed a coachload of hungry adults, a bag of Hula Hoops with crisps so large they can fit on people's heads and an enormous carton of the 1980s fruit drink Um Bongo. Finally, he realises a childhood dream by creating the world's biggest KitKat.
