Fanny Hill

Series 1 - Episode 1

Fanny Hill

Review by:
Jane Rackham

A classy piece of titillation adapted from the 18th-century erotic novel by John Cleland. While there’s an impressive cast (including Alison Steadman, Hugo Speer and Samantha Bond) Fanny is played by newcomer Rebecca Knight, who skilfully manages the transformation from luminous innocent to experienced prostitute. But what lifts this drama above the tawdry is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously: some of the dialogue – too saucy to print here – will certainly make you giggle.

A repeat of Andrew Davies’s two-part adaptation, first shown in 2007.
