One of the most refreshing things about this hip US comedy is that the characters are nuanced, capricious and even unlikeable. Most perplexing of all is Hannah’s hunky boyfriend, Adam: is he a complete fruitcake or hiding a heart of gold behind those gleaming pectoral muscles? Tonight, like our long-suffering heroine, you’ll find yourself veering one way then the other after a wince-inducing bathroom scene.
There’s also a guest spot for Irish actor Chris O’Dowd who last year became Hollywood’s unlikeliest heart-throb.
