The Killing

Series 1 - Episode 1

Prepare to be thrilled by the most talked-about, though possibly least-watched, television drama of recent years. BBC4 is showing all 20 episodes of this gripping Danish crime drama nightly, Sunday to Thursday, for four weeks, in advance of the new series in the autumn.

There are English subtitles, but don’t be scared; this just means you have to focus fully and not move your eyes from the screen for a second as we meet Sarah Lund (played by the wonderful Sofie Grabol), a decent, hard-working, not-at-all maverick senior detective who is spending her last day with the Copenhagen police force before she leaves to start a new life in Sweden with her boyfriend and son. But the murder of a teenage girl, Nanna Birk Larsen, takes hold of Lund and refuses to let her go.
