This series may not have cost a lot to produce, making use of the wealth of material held in the BBC archives, but the amount of time given over to the research is manifest in the quality of recordings that have made it to the final mix.
The recent edition on the Kinks, for example, shone a light on how young the band were when they first hit the big time and an early interview with Brian Matthew sounded like something from another era of the BBC.
Tonight’s edition, linked as always by the knowledgeable narrative of Johnnie Walker, is devoted to Led Zeppelin and includes a real treat for fans of the band: their first live appearance at the Beeb.
