You may remember artists Freddie Robins and Ben Coode-Adams’ Grand Design project last year – converting a massive, Grade II-listed, 16th-century barn in Essex. They wanted somewhere gigantic where they could both work – Ben makes huge sculptures and needed room for welding. Freddie was keen that her home, renovated with a £650,000 budget, shouldn’t be twee. Or in any way cosy. Kevin McCloud returns to see how this trendy couple are liking rural life.

About this programme

11/12. Kevin McCloud revisits London artists Freddie Robins and Ben Coode-Adams, who left their cramped flat and took on the conversion of a Grade II-listed timber-framed barn in the Essex countryside. At seven times the size of the average three-bedroom house, the project proved very challenging, but also gave them plenty of opportunity to be creative.
