Last time Lana Del Rey was in Jools’s studio she was a breakout star, starting to rack up positive blog posts and YouTube hits on the back
of her song Video Games. Now she’s a proper major artist, filling in before following up the bestselling album Born to Die with an EP of new material.
Can she cut it tonight? The common criticism that cult heroes lose their edge at the top of the charts has some weight with Del Rey, especially as her oversexed image, presenting herself as a biddable poppet, is retrograde in all the wrong ways.

Joining her in Jools’s annulus of rock: hyped but conventional indie band Palma Violets, Nona Hendryx, the Weeknd and Tom Odell.
