At the Beijing Paralympics, Stefanie Reid competed in Canadian colours and won a bronze medal. These days she has seen sense (her parents were British) and is looking to do better on her adopted home turf with Team GB. Often described as a sprinter, Reid is also a top-class long jumper and goes in that event today, having opened her account yesterday in the T44 100m. Reid’s journey has been a remarkable one since she lost her foot in a boating accident aged 16.
The clue to her success may lie in the quote from Aristotle etched on her prosthetic leg: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
Also aiming to get in the winning habit today will be Shelly Woods in the T54 5,000m final, while Beijing silver medallist Ben Rushgrove aims to go one better in the T36 100m. He’ll have to beat his team-mate (and world record holder) Graeme Ballard first.
