“You’ve got cream, smoky bacon, woody mushrooms and bloody calves liver,” says John Torode. “But the good thing is that I can wash it down with waterlogged broccoli because that takes all the taste out of my mouth.” It’s not a good start for one of the celebs but, to be fair, the mystery box of ingredients is even more challenging than last week.
Sensibly Jenny Eclair, Diarmuid Gavin, Michael Underwood and Olympic cyclist Rebecca Romero all give the brain a wide berth, but it’s hard to see any of them as MasterChef champion because later in the skills test they all nearly kill the judges with raw chicken.
About this programme
11/30. Comedienne Jenny Eclair, gardener Diarmuid Gavin, former Olympic cycling champion Rebecca Romero and TV presenter Michael Underwood compete in the third of this year's heats, hoping to impress John Torode and Gregg Wallace with their culinary prowess. Their first challenge involves making a dish in 50 minutes using mystery ingredients, including several types of offal. Their skills are then put to the test in an exercise that requires them to prepare a breaded chicken schnitzel in just 10 minutes - but John and Gregg are baffled by some of the techniques on display.
