What’s not to like about the Friesland sheep? They are tall and slender, with a fine white fleece. They taste great in a stew and, yes there’s more, they produce a delicious milk.

Sarah Swadling visits Orchid Meadow in Dorset, home to one of Britain’s biggest milking sheep flock. The farm’s owner might sound like a character from The Fast Show but he has made a very canny investment.
