If you were in the MasterChef kitchen, what would you do with a pigeon and a stick of rhubarb? I’d bin them and order a takeaway but Gareth Gates turns out a startlingly good dish while Laila Rouass, George Latham and Emma Kennedy have a decent stab at making a meal from their mystery box of ingredients.
But then, after a good start, three of them get in a right pickle when confronted with the simple task of making tomato bruschetta. “I love these guys, they’re all over the place — you don’t know what you’re going to get,” says Gregg Wallace. Well, you get a lot of sauce from Emma, a charming smile from Gareth and worried looks from Laila and George.
