The yoof version of Question Time might be a terrifying preview of BBC1’s show in ten years’ time. David Dimbleby already hustles for tweets and texts, but his BBC3 equivalent Jake Humphrey goes further: viewers are told to agree or disagree with the panellists via a Twitter hashtag, with approvals rising and falling on a bar chart.
Free Speech consistently out-does its grandparent with its choice of contributors. It regularly features youth workers and community leaders with more eloquence and immediacy than QT’s elitist party loyalists and megaphone columnists. Tonight’s edition, focusing on further education, comes from Edinburgh.
About this programme
5/12. Jake Humphrey hosts a debate from Edinburgh, and presents the results of a poll asking whether the new £9,000-a-year university tuition fees in England will affect the number of people taking degrees. He is joined by panellists including comedienne Shappi Khorsandi and SNP MSP Humza Yousaf, who tackle subjects such as gay marriage and devolution, as well as issues arising from the news.
