This may look an oddly timed set of international friendlies with the Premier League about to kick off, but 2014 World Cup qualifiers start soon and the selection dice need rolling. England face the worst possible opposition: Italy (kick-off 8pm). We already know Roy Hodgson’s team look solid but outclassed against the Azurri. We saw as much, painfully, in the Euros quarter-final a matter of weeks ago.
About this programme
England v Italy (Kick-off 8.00pm). Coverage of the friendly at the Stade de Suisse Wankdorf in Berne, Switzerland, where England aim to avenge their recent penalty shootout defeat at the hand of the Italians in the quarter-finals of Euro 2012. Cesare Prandelli's men outplayed the English for much of the match before going on to finish the tournament as runners-up to Spain, and are likely to provide Roy Hodgson's side with another difficult challenge. Presented by Adrian Chiles, with commentary by Clive Tyldesley and Andy Townsend, and analysis by Roy Keane, Lee Dixon and Gareth Southgate.
