The staff of King’s College A&E department have to deal with all sorts of patients. Most are scared and some are in agony but a few are also remarkably demanding.

In this final episode of the series, Stacey, who has a painful lung infection, seems indignant that the nurse won’t run to the vending machine and tell him what sandwiches are on offer. Conversely Henry, who’s exhausted from three days of hiccups, is politely grateful for the slightest help.

“You may want to spend a few minutes with an elderly person who lives on their own but you can’t because you’re having to sort out the drunk who’s having a wee in the corner,” explains one nurse with a resigned shrug of her shoulders.

14/14. A busy night shift sees a series of men admitted with various problems. Father-of-six Stacey is experiencing breathing difficulties, but his demanding attitude appears to mask a vulnerability. Twenty-year-old Sam is brought in after being attacked outside a nightclub and has possible injuries to the neck and spine. He is nervous because his father died at the hospital and, with a broken nose, is worried he may have lost his looks. Henry has an electrician's exam the following morning but has been hiccuping for three days. Registrar Faheem is determined to diagnose the problem and get him well in time. Last in the series.
