One of the goals of this year’s Proms is to give a platform to young musicians. In this concert it’s the turn of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, who perform an eclectic set including jazz standards such as Thelonius Monk’s Round Midnight and Duke Ellington’s Rockin’ in Rhythm, as well as bang up-to-date compositions from British musicians.
Hush is a sultry, slinky piece released earlier this year by Nikki Iles, while saxophonist Tim Garland continues his association with the NYJO with the world premiere of his flamenco-inspired Agro Alegría.
