Juanjo Mena returns to conduct the BBC Philharmonic in another curiously mixed programme. To ease us into the evening there’s the brief, lush and romantic prelude from Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde, while the big number is Bruckner’s Symphony No 6, billed in the Proms brochure as “dangerously eruptive”.
Our host Samira Ahmed speaks to composer James MacMillan, a British composer whose music is informed by his faith. He describes his new work Credo, getting its world premiere here, as “a statement of faith and an exploration of the trinity”.
