We all know that to be a world-class athlete you not only need to have the physique but also the right mental attitude to beat your competitors. So what part, if any, does religion play? Does a sporting lifestyle foster a religious belief, or is it all coincidental?
BBC Sport presenter Dan Walker interviews athletes, managers, psychologists and the chaplains of the Olympic Village to learn about this relationship and to understand an athlete’s views on faith when they are losing or injured, or when they retire.
Listen to testimonies by Usain Bolt, who prays and thanks God for his success, and to Team GB’s Mo Farah and Christine Ohuruogu. With the media focusing on our athletes like never before, it is certainly interesting to learn about sport from a different perspective.
