Conductor Donald Runnicles and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra have played this programme to great acclaim in recent years and now bring it to London’s Royal Albert Hall. To start, Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll in its pared-down, original orchestration, followed by Bruckner’s challenging Symphony No 8.
The two composers make a natural pairing: Bruckner idolised Wagner, once genuflecting before him, gushing, “O Master, I worship you!” In the interval, Runnicles will discuss his affinity for both masters with host Charles Hazlewood.
