Of all the races in the Velodrome, I’d say the women's team pursuit is Britain’s strongest chance of gold. It has only been a world championship event since 2008 and Britain’s won it on four of five occasions. They beat the Aussies in their own back garden in April and set a world record – and there’s every chance that the record will be broken again in London.
It’s a beautiful event to watch with the three riders going around the track in a perfect formation, and requires a fine balance: they’re riding to the maximum and yet they must be precise to the millimetre in their movements.
About this programme
Sue Barker presents the latest from the track cycling at the London Velodrome, where the schedule features the men's Omnium 30km points race, and elimination race at 6.25, and the finals of the women's team pursuit finals from 5.42. The women's pursuit was not part of the previous Olympics, but Britain has an impressive pedigree in the discipline, having won gold at this year's world championships with a team of Danielle King, Laura Trott and Joanna Rowsell. With commentary by Hugh Porter, Chris Boardman and Jill Douglas.
