Five fledgeling entrepreneurs battle it out for £100,000 from the coffers of billionaire John Caudwell. The catch is that their benefactor only finds out what he’ll be financing at the end: the hopefuls must sell themselves, not their spreadsheets.
Since selling off his mobile phone empire, Caudwell has reinvented himself as a big-hearted philanthropist and proves more twinkly-eyed Theo Paphitis than mean-mouthed Lord Sugar. This week he looks genuinely aggrieved after sending one worthy contestant away empty-handed, rushing over to give her a consolatory hug. The Angel makes as much business sense as game-show giveaways - and is all the more compelling for it.
