A Special Kind of Dark

A Special Kind of Dark

A drama that opens and closes with a death is likely to be dark and this one lives up to its title — it is one of a special kind. Writer Adrian Penketh sets most of the action in an apartment block in the most luxurious area of a city, but the inside of the building does not match its prestigious exterior. Throughout the play we hear the clanking pipes that torment its three residents: Caspar (Paul Rhys) and the married couple Hélène and Felix. This building is broken — but so are its inhabitants, it turns out. Their co-dependency is malodorous and rotten.

This is a disturbing psychological thriller with an end that can be guessed, but is no less shocking all the same.
