About this programme
Documentary using archive performance footage and interviews to explore the life of Miriam Makeba, the Johannesburg-born singer and civil rights activist who was forced into exile in 1960 for opposing the apartheid regime. Miriam became one of the first South African musicians to make a name for herself on the international scene, and she used her music to deliver messages against racism and poverty.
